Bandcamp EP#4

The fourth of our Bandcamp EPs is released today!

These EPs feature unreleased songs, home demos and live versions of songs from our albums and singles, along with remixes, alternative takes, and some other odds and ends from the vaults.

This particular EP features a demo of Teenage Fanclub’s ‘Everything Flows’ by Doc, a version of Out There by Dinosaur Jnr recorded by one of our previous bands (and which later appeared on a John Peel session!), and The Swede’s original home demo of Pulp’s Do You Remember The First Time.

These EPs are exclusive to members of The Independent Country Bandcamp Ranch, our Bandcamp subscription service. The advert below tells you all about that. Why not join today?

Here comes #BandcampFriday

Howdy bab,

On Friday 5th June, the good people at Bandcamp are once again waiving their fees as part of their Campaign to Support Artists During the Covid-19 Pandemic. What this means is that artists using the platform get to keep all the revenue for sales of music and merch, enabling them to make a little bit of extra dough in these days of no gigs.

It’s a great initiative, and one that generated $4.3million in just 24 hours when it last ran in March. The next event on June 5th promises to be an even bigger success.

And this time, we’re hitching our mules to the wagon…

Over on our Bandcamp shop, we’ve reduced the price of CDs, vinyl and merch in order to spread the love just that little bit further. You can now pick up CDs for just £5, and vinyl records for only £10. We even have some special bundles of CD and vinyl, starting at £14.

To get you in the mood for #BandcampFriday, we’ve made you a little video. This footage was shot at our last gig, which took place on Thursday 12th March, just before the UK went into lockdown. It features some ‘frank and honest’ backstage interviews with the boys. We hope you like it.

At the show, we played some of the songs that will eventually appear on our 3rd album. In fact, the very next day we started recording that LP. However, events soon overtook us and the rest of that recording will have to wait for a little while. In the meantime, if you wanted to pick up vinyl or CD copies of our earlier releases, #BandcampFriday would be the ideal time.

Fill yer boots here, kids!

Keep on truckin’, and we hope to see you out on the road before too long

Love from,

The Further Adventures of Independent Country – new EP out today!

Howdy bab,

To wave goodbye to 2018 we’re releasing the third and final single from our ‘True Adventures of Independent Country’ album today, and it comes wrapped up in a 4-track EP of additional goodies.

Not only that, but it’s available as a PWYW (Pay What You Want) download on our Bandcamp page, which means you can get it for as little as £0.00. The EP is also available from all yer usual digital retailers and streaming services.

The Further Adventures of Independent Country kicks off with our version of Arctic Monkeys’ ‘I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor’, which we recorded with the rest of the ‘True Adventures…’ LP with the lovely Gavin Monaghan earlier this year. We then have three re-worked tracks from our debut LP, ‘Trailerparklife’

Our pal Pete Prescription takes Happy Mondays’ ‘Wrote For Luck’ to the bleedin’ cleaners with his Ghost Ryders remix, before The Swede and Doc from the band present new mixes of Teenage Fanclub’s ‘Star Sign’ and New Order’s ‘True Faith

The cover star is our Bobby P, caught in action at a line dancing event. Independent Country, bab: we walk it like we talk it.

Thanks to everyone who bought our records, came to our shows, or said nice things about us on ‘the socials’ this year. We really do appreciate it. We have an absolute blast doing this thing.

2018 highlights for us – apart from being in the rootinest, tootinest country rock and roll band in town – were the acoustic show in April at the fancy Hexagon theatre, the absolutely raucous outdoor show at Kings Heath street festival in September, and making an actual pop video in our pyjamas. Here’s to more adventures like this in 2019.

As for 2019, we’re currently working on an EP of new songs. This will be out in the spring. Beyond that we’re currently sifting through a growing pile of demos for our third record. All being well that’ll be with you in the autumn. Other than that we are in the process of booking some summer shows and – as ever – we continue to scour the 2nd hand shops of Birmingham for top quality cowboy shirtwear.

Have yourselves a bostin’ Christmas
Love from,

CHiPs, Randy, Bobby P, Doc, The Swede and DJ

Introducing our new LP – “The True Adventures of Independent Country” – pre-order now!

Howby bab,

We’re back! And this time it’s apocryphal…

We, the Independent Country boys of Birmingham, UK, are beyond excited to bring you this very good news….Our second album of country-fried indie covers will be with you this summer, and you can pre-order it right now, dagnabbit!

The album is out on Friday 17th August and comes in digital, CD, and vinyl editions. Here’s the artwork. Ain’t it pretty?

IC True Adventures BigHiRes

With a nod to Stanley Booth’s seminal chronicle of The Rolling Stones’ fateful 1969 tour of the US, “The True Adventures of Independent Country” tells the tale of a whirlwind 18 months for us. Honestly, when we started this band we had no idea of all the places it would take us: Leeds; Dorset (twice); Wolverhampton; Fancy London… and guess what – we’re just getting warmed up. We just might be coming to your town soon.

This album – the follow-up to our debut Trailerparklife (2016) – captures our rollicking, road-hardened live sound, only it’s topped off with flourishes of honkytonk piano from our hombre, Fingers Derville, the sweet backing-vocal tones of Kaytee De Wolfe, and the crazy fiddlin’ of Destroyer Hargreaves. We’re excited to tell you too that the album has been recorded and produced by the great Gavin Monaghan (Editors, Robert Plant, Ryan Adams) at his Magic Garden Studio. It’ll kick your face off like a mule eating Tennessee barbeque on the last bus back from a night at the Indie Disco.

Listen, though, kids. We’re less the dapper Gentlemen of Country this time out. We’re dusty, Dexedrine-dipped desperados. This record is the sound of a band well used to treading the boards of chicken wire-caged stages on the roadhouse circuit. Not that Islington’s Union Chapel, the bucolic Lunar Festival, or the Shiiine On Weekender at Butlins Minehead actually have chicken wire in front of their stages, but you get the idea…

Classic indie hits from The Smiths, Pulp, Artic Monkeys, My Bloody Valentine and Primal Scream all get the patented Independent Country treatment, as if now in the hands of Dolly Parton, Johnny Cash, Neil Young’s Stray Gators or the Gram Parsons-inspired Rolling Stones. Here’s the full track listing:

1: William, It Was Really Nothing (The Smiths)
2: I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor (Arctic Monkeys)
3: Do You Remember The First Time? (Pulp)
4: Wake Up Boo! (Boo Radleys)
5: International Bright Young Thing (Jesus Jones)
6: Come Together (Spiritualized)
7: You Made Me Realise (My Bloody Valentine)
8: This Is How It Feels (Inspiral Carpets)
9: Def Con One (Pop Will Eat Itself)
10: The Girl With The Loneliest Eyes (House of Love)
11: Rocks (Primal Scream)

To get you in the mood, when you pre-order either the digital, CD, or Vinyl version of the album, you immediately get a download of our barn-stompin’ version of Spiritualized’s “Come Together”.

The album itself lands on 17th August. In the meantime, keep ’em peeled for a single on 20th July – that one comes complete with a no foolin’, actual video.

So…what the hell are you waiting for? It’s finally time to come and get some. Roll up, roll up, bab, and be sure to tell your friends.

Order your copy of “The True Adventures Adventures of Independent Country” now.

With love from,

CHiPs, Doc, The Swede, Randy, Bobby P, and DJ Booth.
